Patton - Jacob

Lafayette Call: Jacob Patton, vice president of the Falley-Patton hardware company, and one of the oldest residents of Tippecanoe County and the city of Lafayette, died at 7 o’clock this morning at his late home, No. 617 Ferry Street.
Mr. Patton had been in poor health all winter but his condition did not become alarming until ten days ago. For over fifty years a resident of Lafayette, he has been prominent in its growth and his presence will be missed in business circles.
Jacob Patterson was born August 28, 1827, in Butler County, Ohio. The same year his parents moved to Indiana, locating in Tippecanoe County, near Dayton. Here the deceased grew to manhood, and spent his early life on his father’s farm. In 1847 he located in Lafayette, and Oct. 4, 1849, was united in marriage to Miss Mary Reed, of Rossville. For many years Mr. Patton had been a member of the hardware firm of Falley-Patton Company, and had displayed excellent business ability. He was actively engaged in his business until this spring, when ill health caused him to retire, though he continued his interest in the firm.
Mr. Patton had for forty five years been a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church and was prominently identified with Trinity M. E. Church. He was an earnest Christian, and a good man in every sense of the word. The widow and three children survive, viz: Mrs. W. P. Herron, of Crawfordsville, William R. Patton, of Indianapolis, and Miss Laura G. Patton, of this city.
The funeral will occur from the family residence on Ferry Street next Monday afternoon at 3 o’clock, Rev. Walter D. Cole, pastor of Trinity Church, officiating. The interment will be made in Greenbush Cemetery. - S
